Town Boards and Committee Vacancies
Selectmen seek library trustee, other boards and committees
WILBRAHAM -- The cycle of filling vacancies on appointed boards and committees is continuing, with selectmen back on track after managing major storm emergency responses in June, July and August.
A number of positions have been filled in recent weeks, but selectmen would like to fill vacancies on the Agricultural Commission, Historical Commission, Open Space and Recreation Committee, and Sewer Advisory Board. Of particular interest in a vacancy on the Board of Library Trustee, an elected board, created by a resignation earlier this year. Interested residents must be willing to be appointed for a partial term on the library board and able to stand for election in May 2012 for a full three-year term.
Selectmen also seek volunteers for open-ended service committees such as Public Access TV Advisory Committee, Solid Waste and Recycling Advisory Committee, and the Cable TV Advisory Committee.
All positions remain open until filled. Selectmen would like to hear from interested residents now about known vacancies, but citizen interest is welcome throughout the year. Selectmen would like to have a letter of interest from volunteers and welcome a resume as well. Volunteers typically meet with selectmen for a brief interview in order to match candidates’ interests with the committees’ needs and mission. Volunteers should be town residents and registered voters.
Visit the official town website www.wilbraham-ma.gov to read about the activities of town boards and committees. Download a citizen participation reply form from the “Volunteer Opportunities” link. There is also excellent information about the work of town boards and committees in the Annual Town Report, available at the Town Office Building as well as on the town website. E-mail can be directed to selectmen@wilbraham-ma.gov.
Volunteers are the heart and soul of self-governance.
Senior Center
Volunteers play a major role in the operation of the senior center. Opportunities exist in the delivery of direct outreach to seniors by providing friendly visits, transportation and assistance in running errands, shopping, keeping medical appointments, placing telephone well-being checks, etc. (As required by law, as a condition of being selected, all volunteers must give permission for a Criminal Offender Record Inquiry). If you are interested in volunteering your time and talent, you are welcome to contact Mary Ellen Schmidt, Volunteer and Activities Coordinator to request an application, by calling (413) 596-8379.
