The Highway Division is responsible for maintaining 240 lane miles of roadway including but not limited to snow removal, de-icing, drainage repair and maintenance, road reconstruction, line painting, pot hole patching, street sweeping, and installing street signs. In addition, Highway staff are responsible for maintaining recreation fields, which includes mowing and lining of baseball diamonds, football, lacrosse, and soccer fields on a routine basis, grooming Spec Pond beach and collecting trash at numerous locations on a daily basis. Highway personnel are also responsible for
implementing the mosquito control program.
Winter is a time of multiple tasks for the Highway Division and resident cooperation is sincerely needed. Residents who have a sidewalk are required to clear the walks for public use. Parking bans may be called when snow is predicted and may extend until snow is sufficiently cleared. Cars which interfere with snow removal can be towed.
Residents are also responsible for clearing the end of their driveways and shoveling out their own mailboxes. Also, the Highway Division is not responsible for basketball hoops and other sports equipment that may be left in the streets and cul de sac.
